![]() Art of Fauna & FloraPigeon Post #8: The Lost Puzzles, survey results, dinosaurs! Hello in 2026! I hope you all had a great start into this new year and took some time to refresh. I did, but I also made a lot of progress in this first month. Before we go into the details, I want to say that I'm terribly sorry that I forgot to set the alt-texts for the images last time. Won't happen again! Happy 1st Birthday, Art of Fauna! 🎉One year ago, Art of Fauna was released. I went into great detail last time about what an amazing year this was, so I won't do it here again. But if you missed it, you can read the previous newsletter here. I still have to say it at least once: Thank you for everything ♥️ As promised, I made a new puzzle pack to celebrate the occasion. I titled it The Lost Puzzles, because that's what they are - puzzles that have been created over the year, but I had to skip them because they didn't fit the packages they were intended to be included in. ![]() When you read this, you should already have access to it. You can click the link below or check it out in the App Store if you haven't updated to the latest version yet: What else happened last month? Well... Art of Flora starts to bloom! 🌻My main focus over the last month was to get Art of Flora into good shape. It's far from finished, but I made good progress. All regions for the 5 puzzle packs have now been selected, and also half of all plants. The regions are going to be: ![]() I loved that in the survey, multiple of you suggested the Sonoran Desert for Art of Fauna. This was actually one of the first packages that I wanted to do for Flora. I pivoted now to the Chihuahuan Desert, thanks to a gentleman called Toni Gürke and his illustrations of cacti. More interesting plants he, and others, illustrated can only be found in the Chihuahuan Desert, so it made sense to make the change. I also know that there are many more interesting regions that need to be covered in the future, especially the Alps and South Africa. And more puzzles will come out in the future. Another thing that was finally implemented are the artist profiles, to give you insights into who drew these beautiful plants. This will be released to Art of Flora first, but will also find its way to Art of Fauna later this year. ![]() Lastly, I want to talk about localizations. Right now, Art of Fauna supports 6 languages, but for French and Spanish, only the UI and not for the texts or animal names are translated. Many of you have requested proper localisation, and I promise that it will come before season 2 is released. For Art of Flora, I want to have proper localisation right away. So if you speak Spanish or French, please reach out to me. I can do a localization with tools, but I need people to proofread it. If you speak any other languages that you'd like to see localized, also let me know. I won't promise anything, but maybe we can figure something out. Speaking of getting your feedback... Survey Results 📊The biggie last time was the survey about if a season 2 should happen and if people would be willing to pay for it. Thank you to everyone who took time to reply to the survey. 🙇 We had 61 participants, 59 how whom have bought the first season, either as a bundle or separately. ![]() The most important question was: Would you be willing to pay for a second season of Art of Fauna? And here are the results... ![]() And that was quite a great result! Nobody selected "No", and over 75% said "Yes, definitely". So I'm super happy with those results! 🙇 The 11.5% who selected "Maybe" had different reasons for their hesitation. The main one was pricing—either that they would buy it at a discount or for under $10. The wish for a single payment instead of a subscription was also expressed, which I can assure will be the case: this will be a single payment. One other response mentioned wanting "less stylized images," which I'm trying to respect. It's a bit tricky, as it depends on what's available and what makes an interesting puzzle to play. But I understand that concern. The last comment was about including other kinds of puzzles, like "buildings, posters, historical figures." This won't be happening in Art of Fauna itself, as I want to stick with historical animal imagery. However, I've also been outlining another game for a while now that would feature more diverse types of art. It's still too early to share more details, but just know that you've been heard! Coming to the open part of the survey and thus to the requests for what kind of packs people would like to see. I can't talk about all of them, but let me go over some. The most common ones were actually Dinosaurs, Madagascar, and Japan. The first two are already set in stone for Season 2; for Japan, I just have to do more research, but I think it will be doable. Another common request was aquatic animals. This is always a bit hard because fish are usually... elongated? And puzzles for Art of Fauna are not. But while I was writing this, I looked into the library of unreleased puzzles and saw all of these lying around, which all perfectly fit the dimensions of Art of Fauna. So, I stop rambling and will do another puzzle pack around aquatic animals in the future! ![]() I loved that one of you suggested the Danube Delta, because that was actually planned for season one. In the end, I exchanged it for Scandinavian Taiga, but I think it's time to take a second look. And finally, three more ideas that I found interesting because they were a bit different:
There were many more great ideas, but again, I can't go into them all without making this newsletter go on forever! But thank you very much for all the inspiration 🫶 Finally, thank you all for all the kind messages at the end. Meant a lot. Here is just a glimpse at some of them. ![]() 🥹🥹🥹 Season 2 & What happens until then 🦖So season 2 is now definitely going to happen and planned for this summer. I would like to nail down a more concrete date, but I don't really want to put myself under more stress than necessary right now. But you will hear more once we are closer to release! And the most critical first step was to find a paleoartist. I'm happy to tell you that I found someone, the wonderful Gustavo Monroy from Mexico. I requested two sample illustrations and he absolutely blew me away with them, so we are now in full production mode. ![]() More details about season 2 will emerge when I actually gonna start working on it. But again, thank you for all your suggestions! And until then? Friends of Fauna will definitely continue bringing you your monthly puzzle fix. I would love to add more Easter eggs around Easter time, but we will see about that. What will definitely happen is something very... different and slightly stupid on a special day in April. I won't spoil anything now, but Gustavo is also doing the art for this, and I'm very excited about it. That's it for today. Thank you so much for reading the newsletter, and again, a huge thanks for filling out the survey. Treat yourself to a slice of cake or anything you like to celebrate Art of Fauna's birthday and enjoy The Lost Puzzles! 🦆 Until next time, PS: As always, if you love Art of Fauna, then please take a minute and leave a review on the App Store. This helps a lot with getting found by other people. Thanks! 💚 |
